BEHIND THE SCENES BEHIND THE SCENES WITH: EDNA BRONCANO HOUSEKEEPER Edna started her career with Fred. Olsen in 1996 at the tender age of 30. With a degree in Agricultural Engineering, which could not have been so completely different as to where her career is today. A degree in Agricultural Engineering and a stint in Dubai at the Hyatt Regency are unusual preparations for a life at sea, but they seem to have stood Housekeeper Edna Broncano in good stead throughout her long career with Fred. Olsen. Edna’s first appointment was as a bar waitress on the beloved Black Prince. Very quickly she was promoted to become a Bar Tender, a position she held for two years and where she gained invaluable experience working with guests. The Hotel Manager was one of Fred. Olsen’s longest serving, Ragner 28 www.fredolsencruises.com Lervolt. He saw great potential in the enthusiastic Bar Tender and encouraged her to move up the ranks. Edna was keen to learn and wanted to work in different departments. She requested a transfer to the Housekeeping department and took up the position as Officer Utility for one contract. In those days this was a ten month commitment. Afterwards Edna returned to Black Prince where she was promoted to Cabin Stewardess, which added another string to her bow and gave her further experience in hotel operations, which was the side of the business that was most appealing. After nine years on Black Prince she moved over to the Braemar as Assistant Housekeeper. It was very clear then that she was self motivated and keen to ensure all Fred. Olsen’s guests received a great service throughout their holiday. This attitude has been carried through all her positions from the first job on Black Prince to her current role as Housekeeper on Braemar. Edna is responsible for all the cabins on Braemar, which is a high level of responsibility, including the over seeing of all refurbishments; maintenance of all cabins and public areas; the laundry; and room service.
